7,000 social enterprises created by ‘new calculation’

Social Enterprise magazine reports that: “Government researchers seem to have stumbled on another 7,000 social enterprises, pushing the figure to 62,000 in the UK.” The full story is here. The best bit is a cabinet office spokeswoman saying that: “Because the methodology has changed we cannot compare this figure with previous estimates, however, we do believe that the number of social enterprises is increasing and therefore this new estimate is consistent with feedback from our partners that the sector is growing, which is great news.” Great news indeed.
